Hinuera is a proud country rugby club which fields an array of senior and junior teams. Our senior teams reguarly finish near the top of Waikato's Division 1 rugby competition and have gained promotion to the Premier competition a few times in recent years. We have two fields at our club and both have flood lights which enable many night games to be played throughout the season.

Meet the 2020 Senior A coaching team
We welcome a new look coaching team for 2020 who, along with a supportive core of senior players, bring a fresh approach to our club, with a focus on rebuilding a positive team culture and enjoyment of the game for our players.
Hinuera is lucky to have such an experienced team who are passionate about seeing Hinuera thrive. A goal kicking first five, a tight/loose forward and an outside back, these three have plenty of knowledge to impart.
Head coach Toby O’Reilly played his schoolboy rugby for Te Kauwhata and Counties, then age grades at University, commencing a long playing career at Hinuera in 2004. He has played for the Waikato Divisional XV and had a season playing semi-professional rugby for Boroughmuir in Edinburgh. His favourite rugby memory was the emphatic win against UMS in the 100 years of rugby in Matamata centenary game.
Assistant coach Rhys Williams couldn't get more Hinuera if he tried. Born to local Hinuera Rugby & Sport legends, Muzza and Jo, Rhys started playing rugby for Hinuera at age four, through to Matamata College 1st XV and Waikato Secondary Schools. A rugby scholarship to Lincoln University saw him play for Canterbury U19, U21, Canterbury B and two seasons for the Canterbury NPC team. He also managed to fit in a season at Glasgow Hutchesons’ Aloysians before returning to see out his playing career at Hinuera, which we can't confirm as to whether that has come to a definite conclusion.
Trainer Jade Morgan, previously employed as a physical training instructor in the RNZAF before farming in the lush lands of the Waikato called, has years of experience training rugby teams from the Airforce team, Manawatu Turbos, Manawatu B and Defence Force Rugby. He arrived at Hinuera in 2011 and with our colours being the same as those of his home region Taranaki, he settled right in and has been invaluable as a player, coach and trainer ever since.
The inception of the Matamata Combined Colts team began with a concern by members of both Hinuera Rugby & Sports and United Matamata Sports. The concern was around young players of both clubs not playing rugby. In essence, the idea was to run a sub union colts team with members from both clubs and sharing costs, playing time and everything evenly and amicably between both clubs.
As a rugby community, we need to work hard to keep both clubs strong and to encourage this grade as a vital feeder to our higher grades when the players wish or exceed the age group.
Young players wanting to play colts rugby but also support our Hinuera R&S club, still register with and pay their subs to Hinuera and are a vital part of our club, they just play in different jerseys with their peers from UMS. Games and trainings are split between the two clubs, so our Hinuera players still remain active within our club.
As a wise Hinuera Old Boy once said, "You're a long time not playing rugby", so get amongst it.
We look forward to seeing more of the MCC team out at Hinuera in 2020.
If you are keen to play colts rugby, please get in touch and we'll put you in contact with the right people.
